These are our 4 week taxidermy courses

Whether you interested in the Deer and Antelope shoulder mounts and the small life size mount offered in our Standard Course, or the Larger Elk and Moose Game heads and large life size mounts offered in our Expanded Course, our 4 week full courses have something for everyone. Both courses include Birds and Fish for a complete introduction to taxidermy.

Missoula has a population of nearly 70,000 and is home to the University of Montana. Hunting and Fishing opportunities are only minutes away with many other activities to fill your leisure time. Hiking, Rafting, Snowmobiling, Skiing, Local Outdoor Rifle Range and Video Archery Shoots.

Deer, Elk, Bear, Trout, Bass, Pike, the Missoula area has it all, and is home to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Boone and Crockett club headquarters.

Imagine fishing the Blackfoot River during your lunch hour or after school, fishing at Seeley Lake or Flathead Lake on weekends. Missoula has something for everyone.

4 Week Full Courses

160 hours

Classes fill up fast and are booked on a first come first served basis.

Reserve your spot early!

Signing up several months prior to the class you want to attend is recommended, however, enrollment reservations are accepted at any time prior to the first day of class, as long as there are openings available.

Job Placement:

Since our courses are geared for students who plan to open their own businesses, our graduates do not often need job placement services. However, we periodically receive calls from taxidermists looking for new employees. We keep a current file of these openings and pass them on to interested students.

PAYMENT POLICIES

We require a $500.00 deposit with your application. The remaining balance is due on the first day of school.

Standard Four Week Full Course

If you plan on doing mostly Deer and small life size mammals, this course is for you. In our standard 4 week course you will mount TWO of everything. This course offers students the most economical option while getting a choice in specimens. The course also goes into realistic habitat creation plus our business and marketing seminar.

By mounting two of everything:

  • You gain invaluable experience and confidence through repetition
  • You leave school with twice as many mounts for your showroom
  • You can mount the species that your customers will be bringing to your studio

The complete cost for the four week course is $8500.00

This price includes all specimens, antlers, forms, books, supplies, and materials needed for habitat construction. You will also receive your own set of taxidermy tools that are yours to keep.


Expanded Four Week Full Course

If you plan on doing large mammals such as Elk, Moose, Wolves, Mountain Lions and Bears, then this is the course for you. In our 4 week expanded course you will mount TWO of everything. One large and one small.

The course also goes into more advanced habitat creation plus our business and marketing seminar.

Four week fish course

Did you know that Fish Taxidermy is one of the most profitable parts of a taxidermists business? When you take into consideration the price of the supplies needed to mount a fish, and what the average taxidermist charges for fish mounts, you’ll see that it can be something you might want to specialize in. Good quality fish mounts and reproduction fish are in high demand. Learn the advanced techniques that will put your fish mounts ahead of the competition.

In the four week fish course you will complete 10 fish

Two skin mounted Rainbow Trout
All five species of Pacific Salmon
One large Steelhead Trout (36”)
One Large Walleye Pike
One large, Largemouth Bass

Subjects covered include:

Skin mounted fish: measuring, skinning, carving bodies and mounting with artificial heads
Choosing the right reproduction fish blank
Prepping blanks for painting
Using fish reference material
The use of fish coloring mediums including airbrush paint, watercolor pencils, powder paints, and more..
Airbrush paints. water based vs. lacquer – the pros and cons of each
Airbrushing techniques
The difference between opaque and transparent airbrush paints
Scale tipping
Deluxe fish habitat creation

The complete cost for the four week course is $12,500.00

Students taking the four week fish course will be supplied with a Badger Renegade Velocity airbrush and a selection of paints which are yours to keep
